(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Despite the resignation of a top official, Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday indicated it will take some doing for Loretto Hospital to again be allowed to handle COVID-19 vaccinations for the city.
The resignation of Chief Operating Officer Anosh Ahmed has done little to erase her doubts about the hospital’s ability to properly handle the vaccines.
She said hospital officials assured her they’d shared all information about cases where vaccines were mishandled, yet new stories — many from Block Club Chicago — kept coming out.
Loretto reportedly administered vaccines to people who were ineligible and may have had a connection to Ahmed.
She said Loretto won’t be handling any more first doses of COVID-19 vaccine until her team is comfortable that the problems are over.
“I’m not going to stand by while any provider, in this time of great need and scarcity of this precious, life-saving vaccine, is gaming the system. We’re not going to tolerate that.”
Lightfoot also pointed to the decision to stop working with Innovative Express Care, a Chicago Public Schools contractor that allegedly misappropriated doses. She says she won’t tolerate any provider that is gaming the system.
