CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Loretto Hospital executive embroiled in a series of controversies over the alleged misallocation of COVID-19 vaccine has resigned.

Loretto Hospital’s Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Chief Operating Officer Dr. Anosh Ahmed in a unanimous vote Wednesday.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Dr. Ahmed for his contributions to the Loretto Hospital community and we wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Edward M. Hogan, Chairman of the Loretto Hospital Board of Trustees.

Chairman Hogan also added that the Board will continue to investigate any and all deviations from the rules and regulations guiding their vaccination policy.

“If our review should uncover anything further that indicates our processes were compromised, there will be additional consequences imposed on those responsible for these actions," he said.

Ahmed’s resignation came hours after Block Club reported numerous ineligible people who work at a steakhouse frequented by Ahmed were vaccinated early, in addition to employees at Trump Tower, where Ahmed owns a condo and employees at a high-end Gold Coast jewelry shop frequented by Ahmed; as well as Cook County judges and their spouses.

The city of Chicago cut off new vaccine supplies to Loretto Hospital amid continuing reports that people connected to Ahmed may have been getting vaccinated ahead of their turn.

The board last week reprimanded Ahmed and the hospital’s president and CEO, George Miller, and announced steps to reform the way it distributed vaccine.

The Chicago Department of Public Health continues to investigate.

A private clinic, meanwhile, has had its vaccine supply pulled by the city for allegedly misallocating thousands of doses that were supposed to go to Chicago Public Schools employees.
