(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hundreds are remembering LGBTQ icon, activist, and bar owner Marge Summit, who died last week.
Marge's strong, fiery attitude was something friend Kevin Bryson said he admired most about her.
"One time I was annoying her by misbehaving a little bit, nothing serious, but she decided to reward me with a birthday cake in the face, and it was really effective at calming me down," he said.
Bryson was also a frequent customer of Marge's former LGBTQ+ bar His ‘n Hers and said as a gay man, having a welcoming bar to visit was valuable.
"It was just a little neighborhood bar, but it was all about the people and all about the environment."
He said one thing he'll never forget about Marge: how brave she was.
"She was not gonna take anything from anybody, and you're gonna anchor that as a theme and so I really looked up to that, and it's the same spirit that got me a cake in the face- that she was not shy," Bryson said.
"She was of an era and a temperament that you had to stand up for yourself or you were gonna get taken advantage of."
