CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — While thousands were rocking to the sounds of Lollapalooza earlier this month, Chicago police said nearly a dozen people were busy swiping cell phones as part of a suspected theft ring.

Chicago police said they arrested 10 people and recovered dozens of cellphones that were stolen during Lollapalooza weekend.

Undercover officers arrested the suspected thieves throughout the music festival, officials said.

After officers saw at least one suspect appear to steal phones, CPD said police tracked that person to another location where the stolen goods were dropped off.

Only one of the 10 people arrested is known to be from Chicago. Eight of the other suspects came from all over the country, including Queens, N.Y.; Orlando, Fla.; and Los Angeles. Authorities said they don’t know where one of the suspects is from.

Those who were taken into custody ranged in age from 19 to 43, and all of them have been charged with misdemeanor theft.
