DANVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 73-year-old man is facing federal charges after allegedly driving his car into a building in Danville where an abortion clinic is planned.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Central Illinois said police responded to the building and found Phillip Buyno, of Prophetstown, stuck in his car inside the entrance to the building.

A police report said backed his Volkswagon Passat through the doors and the car was wedged there.

Inside the car, police found several containers filled with gasoline.

Buyno is charged in the federal criminal complaint with attempting to use fire to damage a building used in interstate commerce.

This planned clinic, near the Indiana border, prompted the city council to pass an ordinance banning the shipping of medicines and instruments that can be used for abortions.

That’s expected to be challenged in court.

Indiana enacted a near total ban on abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which is also being challenged.
