(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A north suburban man, who was previously arrested for a DUI, has been accused of showing up drunk to a required DUI victim impact panel and attacking a Lake County Sheriff's sergeant.
The sheriff's office said it happened at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, after the sergeant on scene noticed one of the attendees — identified as 41-year-old Nicholas Goheen — had fallen asleep.
Officials said the sergeant informed Goheen, of Park City, that he had to stay awake in order to receive credit for attending the session.
As he spoke to Goheen, the sergeant said he smelled alcohol coming off of his breath and asked him to leave.
According to the sheriff's office, Goheen became increasingly aggressive and began "pushing, grabbing and scuffling" with the sergeant.
The sergeant eventually took Goheen into custody, but not without suffering minor injuries that required medical attention at a nearby hospital.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office charged Goheen with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery in a public place, resisting arrest and obstructing identification.
Goheen was being held in the Lake County Jail.
