BEACH PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 30-year-old Beach Park man accused of stabbing his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter was denied bond during an initial court appearance.

Demetrius Fisher is charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing the girl multiple times. The girl’s mother got a call from her school after she failed to show up on Thursday morning.

She returned home to see Fisher leaving and he ran, according to the Sheriff’s office. She found her daughter with what the sheriff’s office described as life-threatening wounds.

Fisher was later located and arrested at the Metra station in Waukegan.

Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said, in a statement, “Our entire office is thinking about the child that is currently undergoing medical treatment. We will support the child and the family, and we are glad to hear that this defendant will be detained during the pendency of the case.”

“We also want to thank the Sheriff’s Office for quickly arresting this dangerous defendant.”
