(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A nine-year-old Beach Park girl is in critical condition after she was stabbed by her mother's boyfriend, authorities say.
The child's mother was called Thursday morning after the child did not show up for school, officials said. When she arrived at her home, she reportedly saw 30-year-old Demetrius Fisher running away.

Inside the home, the mother found her 9-year-old with multiple stab wounds, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Detectives picked up the suspect, Fisher, at the Waukegan Metra station, officials said. He is in a dating relationship with the mother of the child and lives with them, police said.
Fisher is charged with attempted murder and was expected to appear in court Friday.
The girl was expected to recover from her wounds but faces a long recovery, a spokesman for the sheriff's office said.
