CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man has been charged with a shooting outside a migrant shelter in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

Cleber Fernandez,26,  has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery. Police said he has been identified as the gunman who Friday night shot a 25-year-old man near 64th and South University Avenue, outside the City-run migrant shelter at the former Wadsworth Elementary School.

Prosecutors said the two got into a fight and, later in the day, the victim met friends at a park. Fernandez walked up to him and shot him in the stomach.

The victim remains at the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition but is expected to survive. Fernandez was found a short time later in a nearby Aldi parking lot.

The addresses for both Fernandez and the victim are listed as the local migrant shelter.
