
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago man is now charged with aggravated DUI after a deadly weekend crash on I-55.
Illinois State Police said a sedan was stopped on the right shoulder of the Stevenson near Cicero Avenue Sunday night. Several people were attempting to change a tire when a pickup truck swerved off the roadway. It struck the vehicle and two people that were standing on the shoulder.
Nikolas Hutto, 28, was hospitalized and later pronounced dead. The second person suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup, 40-year-old Octavio Lara Chavez, was hospitalized with minor injuries. He’s now been charged with aggravated DUI involving death and great bodily harm.
He remains behind bars before a court hearing.
