Man charged with robbing Evanston letter carriers, alleged to have stolen mailbox key

EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Evanston man has been charged with robbing two US Postal workers.

A grand jury has indicted Everett Pullett on charges that he assaulted and robbed two letter carriers in Evanston back in 2022.

Federal prosecutors said police recovered one of the arrow keys the now 33-year-old allegedly stole that allowed him into mailboxes in condo and apartment buildings.

The first robbery was the afternoon of Sept. 26 and then again the next morning.

In that second case, prosecutors said Pullett pulled a gun and punched the carrier in the face.

The postal inspector in charge of the Chicago Division said the service is clear in its resolve to aggressively investigate those who harm what she calls invaluable public servants.

Pullett has pleaded not guilty.
