CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A person was fatal shot Thursday afternoon while on a northbound CTA Red Line train on the South Side, according to police.

The shooting happened just before 4:30 p.m. as a northbound Red Line train was at the Garfield station.

According to police, three male offenders approached another male passenger, and one pulled a gun and fired shots.

The male was struck in the arm and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The three suspects got off the train and ran off.

Trashaun Graves rides that line and spoke to CBS 2.

"I love Chicago, but this has got to stop," he said. "They need to put more police officers on the track, period, because this is getting ridiculous. It makes you not even want to travel the local transportation anymore.”

CTA trains and properties are well-covered by surveillance cameras.

Just before the shooting, four men were shot in a business nearby on the 300 block of East 47th Street. Two people walked in and opened fire, police said.

It is unknown whether the shootings are related.

No one is in custody in either case. Area One Detectives are investigating.
