CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - One person was hurt following a high-rise fire in Lakeview this morning.
The Chicago Fire Department said crews responded to the 16-story apartment building on Sheridan near Barry shortly after 9:30 a.m. There, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the ninth floor. It took nearly 20 minutes for crews to put out the flames, the CFD tweeted.
The fire was contained to a single unit, with some of the building’s occupants going to the roof while others sheltered in place.
A 24-year-old man was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center. His condition was not made available.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire could have been sparked from an unattended candle, the Fire Department said.
