(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An 18-year-old Gurnee man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in a city park, and Waukegan police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

It was about 2:30 a.m., with as many as 70 people in Bowen Park on the city’s north side, Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said.

The victim was shot and killed in the parking lot.

Police have had a hard time getting witnesses to come forward, Florip said Monday.

“There should be people coming forward and explaining to us what happened — people that were witnesses, people that heard things, people that were in the area,” he said.

Waukegan Police recovered “numerous” shell casings from the scene in Bowen Park, Florip said.

The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the victim Monday as 18-year-old Ladarrius M. Cowart of Gurnee.
