(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Aurora man this week admitted throwing an explosive device at Naperville police last year during a protest stemming from the death of George Floyd.

Christian Rea was arrested and charged after federal authorities used videos and other information to link him with the crime.

Video purportedly showed Rea throwing the explosive at police June 1, 2020, during a night of unrest and looting in the western suburb. Some officers were left “temporarily stunned, with several officers suffering momentary blindness and hearing loss for several minutes,” a criminal complaint said.

As part of Rea’s plea agreement, the 20-year-old admitted to attempting to obstruct law enforcement amid a civil disorder. He faces a likely prison sentence of up to a year behind bars.

Rea’s sentencing is set for March 24.
