NEW LENOX, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – Providence Catholic High School has dismissed head football coach Tyler Plantz despite the Celtics opening the season with four consecutive victories.
The school announced Sunday that Plantz would no longer lead the program, saying it was moving in a new direction. Providence did not provide a reason for the change.
Offensive coordinator Adam Nissen has been named interim head coach. The school said its priority is providing players with stability and support during the transition.
Plantz, a Providence graduate and former Notre Dame player, took over the program in 2022. He compiled a 35-19 record and led the Celtics to two state championship games, including the Class 5A title game last season.
Nissen previously served as head coach at St. Laurence, where he recorded a 35-28 record and led the Vikings to the 2023 Class 4A championship game.
Providence, ranked fifth in the Super 25, improved to 4-0 with a 31-7 victory over Carmel on Friday. The Celtics are scheduled to visit Nazareth this Friday.
