(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Algonquin man has been sentenced to fifty years in prison for the murders of his mother and step-father, according to the McHenry County State Attorney's Office.
On November 30, 2021, the Algonquin Police Department responded to the 400 block of La Fox River Drive for a well-being check after a resident, Peter Almen, failed to show up to work that day.
Officers attempted to make contact at the residence with Almen and his wife, Elvira. However, no one answered the door.
Officers spoke on the phone with Elvira’s son, Maxim Parnov, who also lived at the residence. Parnov denied knowledge of Peter and Elvira’s whereabouts, but did tell officers that he had been arguing with Peter and Elvira in recent days.
On December 1, 2021, police located a U-Haul truck that was rented by Parnov in a parking lot of a U-Haul rental facility. The deceased remains of Peter and Elvira Almen were discovered in the U-Haul truck.
Peter and Elvira Almen both died as a result of multiple injuries due to assault, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
Friends of Parnov confirmed to police that he had told them that he killed his parents after the argument. He was apprehended on December 2, 2021 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
