CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was a fatal stabbing in a popular music venue in the West Loop Wednesday.

It was 5 p.m, and local R&B artist Danny Boy Steward was rehearsing at City Winery. That’s when Chicago police said a 41-year-old man stabbed a 47-year-old multiple times in the back and chest. He died at the hospital.

Police charged Clarence Johnson, of Bellwood, with one count of first degree murder and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

CBS-2 reported the two men worked at the venue, leaving Steward shocked.

“When you say that it started happening in a workplace and a place where we’re doing live music and a place that’s supposed to bring good soul and good spirits, we have to talk about things like this,” Steward said.

People expecting to attend two events at the concert site were told it was closed when they arrived.
