(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Helping people feel better through therapeutic massage: That is the goal of John Louis, the founder of the Massage Therapy Center of Winnetka.

Louis, 61, said he became interested in massage therapy as a teen athlete. A doctor suggested he seek the help of therapeutic massage.

He says there are many benefits: “We’re increasing circulation. We’re forcing good blood flow, nutrition, oxygen to the tissues. At the same time, we’re flushing out debris and toxicity. We’re assisting the lymphatic system. It helps people relax.”

Louis says he’s worked in the past as a massage therapist for the White Sox and the Chicago Horizons soccer team. He’s a member of the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame and has invented a number of tools used by massage therapists and people who want self-care.

“I wanted to have something to save my hands because I was working really hard,” he said.

He didn’t find anything, so he came up with the Acuforce 7.0 -- the first of his several inventions.
