(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Brandon Johnson says he's reached a decision about whether he'll accept an invitation to testify on Capitol Hill about the city's “Welcoming City Ordinances”.

The Mayor’s office has confirmed that Johnson will be heading to D.C. to testify.

It was late last month that Kentucky Congressman James Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, wrote to Brandon Johnson and the mayors of New York, Boston, and Denver, inviting them to testify as part of an investigation of “Sanctuary Cities”.

Now this letter was worded.
“Sanctuary jurisdictions and their misguided and obstructionist policies hinder the ability of federal law enforcement to remove dangerous criminals from American communities,”

And well, at the time, City Corporation Counsel Mary Richardson-Lowry refused to say if the mayor would go.

“It would be premature to talk about going, until such time that we properly digested all the legal issues. As well as the other, substantive aspects of the communication from the oversight committee.

The digestion complete, the mayor has issued a statement saying he will participate in a hearing on Capitol Hill March 5, and he thanks the committee members for what he calls the upcoming conversation on an important issue.
