(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago City Council committee has approved a measure that would allow long-standing parades to be the first in line to receive permits this year.
The Special Events Committee gave approval to so-called traditional parades canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic to reclaim their dates, rather than having to fight it out in a lottery with neighborhood groups.
Traditional parades are ones that have been running five straight years, and they won’t have 2020 and 2021 cancelations counted against them.
Examples: the Bud Billiken Parade, the Pride Parade and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The measure goes to the full City Council, which meets April 21.
