CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Metra riders are going to see some significant changes in the coming weeks.
Metra is closing ticket windows and changing the fare structure.
Ticket windows are closing on the BNSF Line next week. The rest, including downtown stations, are closing on Feb. 1.
Tickets will have to be purchased through the Ventra app or vending machines starting in February. Metra said you can still buy a ticket from a conductor on a train.
The fare zones are changing too. The current ten zones will be cut to four.
One-way tickets will cost between $3.75 and $6.75, depending on the distance from downtown.
There are also changes for multiple ride passes.
