A Metra UP Northwest train struck a pedestrian dead Wednesday morning in Arlington Heights.
Meg Reile, a Metra representative, told WBBM that the victim was an unidentified female and no further information is available at this time.
The incident happened before 6:30 a.m. near the railroad crossing at Ridge and Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights police said.
Inbound and outbound trains on the Northwest line were halted past Des Plaines, Metra said. Riders were told to expect extensive delays.
"As far as delays go, we are in the process of clearing up we have a couple trains out there that are running behind just because their equipment was so far behind and its cycle due to waiting for the railroad to be open for the accident, but other than that we should be back in normal for rush-hour," Reile said.
