CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Travelers who are expecting to park at Midway International Airport will need to plan for construction that will make hundreds of parking spaces unavailable at one of the airport’s parking garages.

Starting Monday, Midway Airport’s Terminal Garage will be under construction. The work isn’t expected to be completed until before Thanksgiving. The Chicago Department of Aviation said drivers who are planning to park at Midway should allow for extra time.

At least two floors of the six-floor garage will be open 24/7 on a rotating basis. During construction, the terminal garage will have roughly 700 spaces available — down from 2,500 spaces when the entire garage is open.

Work on the garage, which opened in 1999, will include concrete repair and patching to the ceiling and ramps to get ready for the holiday season.

Travelers who are seeking daily parking were encouraged to consider the economy parking lot and economy parking garage located at 5050 W. 55th Street.
