CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Dozens of migrants spent the night in Chicago after being bussed from Texas in a protest by Governor Greg Abbott of President Biden’s southern border policy.

According to Governor J.B. Pritzker, the migrants are mostly from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. The governor of Texas tweeted Wednesday night that the first bus of migrants from Texas to sanctuary city Chicago had arrived and that Texas will continue busing migrants until the U.S. border policy changes.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot criticized Governor Abbott.

“ We shouldn’t be in a situation where families are thrown on buses with babies, pregnant women, people who are in need of medical care on an uncertain journey across our country.

“We will, no matter, stand up, but shame on him. He brings a stain upon our nation. This absolutely cannot continue. We got to rally together in these times and help these people that are in need,” Lightfoot said Wednesday night.

The mayor said the 75 or so migrants would be moved to other locations in the city Thursday after getting a meal and a warm bed here at the Salvation Army Freedom Center at Chicago and Christiana in Humboldt Park.
