BARRINGTON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Valentine’s Day gift a week late may be forgiven if it involves miniature horses wearing sweaters.

That’s what the organizers from Mane in Heaven Miniature Therapy Horses were hoping since a special event for children in need originally planned for a week ago had to be rescheduled for Sunday because of record-setting low temperatures on Valentine's Day.

”We had it planned for the 14th but the weather was too cold so we pushed it to this weekend. We wanted to keep everyone safe,” explained Dina Morgan, president of Mane in Heaven.

The sweater-wearing miniature horses are meant to bring joy to children with complex medical needs at a drive-thru Valentine’s event reschedule for Sunday. The Barrington-based nonprofit brought joy, smiles and happiness to families from Shriners Hospital, Cals Angels and Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The event was held at the Barrington Campus Life and families received Valentine’s, plush horses, special gifts, cookies and the chance to meet and mingle with Mane in Heaven’s miniature horses, Willow and Poppy.
