(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Now that Major League Baseball has cancelled some games because of the player lockout, some Chicago-area baseball fans are turning to minor-league teams.

Curtis Haug, vice president and general manager of the Kane County Cougars, said his sales office has seen an increase in calls and emails from fans. Meantime, groups and businesses that were planning outings at Cubs or White Sox games are also reaching out because of the uncertainty, he said.

Minor-league games have not been cancelled, but he says some fans mistakenly think otherwise.

The Kane County Cougars became much more popular during the 1994 major-league strike, which has benefitted the team to this day, he said.

While Haug hopes the lockout ends quickly, he admits it could have the same effect on the Cougars and other minor-league teams as the strike did.
