(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Archdiocese of Chicago has announced another round of church closings and mergers on the city’s South and West sides, as well as in the south suburbs.
It’s part of ongoing restructuring due to declining membership.
St. Agatha and St. Martin de Porres on the West Side will remain but share a pastor and staff.
On the South Side, Saints Peter and Paul and St. John De La Salle will close. St Kilian will merge with St. Margaret of Scotland.
St Anne in Hazel Crest and St. Emeric in Country Club Hills will close. St. Irenaeus in Park Forest and St. Lawrence O’Toole in Matteson are closing. In Evergreen Park, St. Bernadette will close.
The Archdiocese said the parishes will merge into existing ones starting in July, but timelines and new names are yet to be worked out.
