(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After a series of reports detailing horror stories of alleged mistreatment of the developmentally disabled in Illinois, Republican state lawmakers are asking for more oversight.
The initial reports focused on problems at a downstate facility operated by the state of Illinois.
And after that, the Pritzker administration planned to move residents to other facilities.
Now a new report by ProPublica says there are problems at the other places as well.
A group of Republican state lawmakers says something has to change.
"These most vulnerable residents living in the developmental centers throughout our state can't protect themselves,” Illinois House Assistant Republican Leader Charlie Meier said. “I'm very sad to learn of more reports that our most vulnerable residents under state care are being punched, slapped, hosed-down, thrown about and dragged. And in some cases, left to die."
For one thing, Meier says, the state needs to hire more staff at the facilities.
WBBM has asked the the Illinois Department of Human Services to comment.
