(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The mother of an Elgin High School student who was fatally shot Sunday night on his way to a concert at the United Center is speaking out, as police continue looking for those responsible for the killing.

Investigators said 18-year-old Jess Kendall was on his way to a Lil Durk concert, when he and some friends were robbed on Wolcott Avenue near Warren Boulevard.

Police said the teen died after he was pistol whipped and shot, while two other teens were wounded.

Kendall's mother, Doris Zeisberger, said her son was kind and he regularly assisted people in need.

“He was somebody that was loved by all. He had so many friends. He would go around the neighborhood, he would help the older people in the neighborhood. And he always said ‘yes’ and always trying to make people's days better,” Zeisberger said.

GoFundMe campaigns have been set up to help Jess Kendall's family. As of Tuesday evening, more than $8,000 has been raised.

“It's so senseless that an innocent person, such a great natured one, that had a whole bright future ahead of them doesn't get that opportunity anymore. And for these people to hurt my son the way they did, it's so heartbreaking.”

A spokesperson for Elgin High School says it will work with the family to find an appropriate and lasting way to honor his memory.

Kendall was one of three teenagers shot outside the United Center leading up to the concert.

Chicago police said a 15-year-old boy was shot in the hand and grazed in the stomach by a bullet and a 19-year-old was hit in the ribs.
