NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --The Naperville Park District is trying to reassure people that the water at Centennial Beach is safe.
The Park District acknowledges there have been comments and questions regarding the color of the water described by someone on social media as “bizarre.”
The color is bright green and the water coming from sprinklers in a kids play area has been described as brown.
“The recent lack of rain and warm temperatures have led to an increase in algae growth," the Park District said in a statement.
“Centennial Beach staff continues to monitor the water quality, and all tests have shown normal results and that it is safe for swimming.”
The water is chlorinated and re-circulated but is not filtered. The Park District also said it is working to mitigate the algae to deter further growth.
