Despite winter storm, Naperville School District starts hybrid learning Tuesday

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Naperville Community Unit School District 203 has been in varying phases of remote learning since the start of the school year.

In a video message shared with the community, Superintendent Dan Bridges said the district has entered the third stage of it’s ‘Return to Learn’ plan.

“We’re moving into our hybrid plan to allow those students who opt for the in-person learning to come to our schools while we continue to deliver online learning for those who choose to remain at home," Bridges said.

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 26, elementary schools will do half-day sessions Tuesday through Friday, with half of a building’s students attending in the morning and half in the afternoon.

Junior and high school students will attend twice a week from morning to early afternoon. Students in specialized programs will receive four days of in-person instruction and all district students will be remote on Mondays.

Superintendent Bridges said District 203 has worked hard to implement a number of coronavirus mitigation strategies to keep students and staff safe.

“We’ll continue to watch our social distancing, wear our masks, and with the beginning of our surveillance testing and a vaccine right around the corner, we’re really confident that we have a safe learning environment for everybody," he said.

Superintendent Bridges tweeted Tuesday morning the district will proceed with hybrid learning as planned.
