SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Rotunda of the state Capitol is starting to fill up with holiday displays. So far there is a tree, a Nativity scene, a menorah, and a poster from the secretary of state’s office explaining the First Amendment.

If past is prologue, they’ll soon be joined by a poster from the Freedom from Religion Foundation and a sculpture from the Satanic Temple of Illinois. One year there was even a Festivus pole.

Tuesday there was a celebration of the Nativity, and State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) was the keynote speaker.

“It doesn’t matter where Jesus leads us. Following him will always be an adventure,” said Bailey. “Whenever he says, ‘Follow me,’ do what Mary did. Just say yes. Let it be. – Luke 1:38.”
