CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Nearly 1,000 people from around the world have signed up for Friday night's auction of items belonging to the notorious gangster Al Capone.
For better or for worse, the name Al Capone is still linked to the City of Chicago. And people are still fascinated with the man who symbolized organized crime during the roaring 1920s.
Now more than a century after Capone moved to Chicago from New York and 90 years after the IRS caught up with him, people can bid on items belonging to the organized crime kingpin and his family.
Close to 1,000 items are up for sale, from furniture to letters to Al Capone's colt .45 pistol.
Bids will be placed both in person and online. About 150 people will witness the auction in person, including Capone's three surviving granddaughters.
The “A Century of Notoriety: The Estate of Al Capone" auction starts at 6 p.m. Friday and it will be streamed online at liveauctioneers.com.
