New, massive pickleball facility seems to be a sure thing in Glenview

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In another sign of its growing popularity, north suburban Glenview has approved a new pickleball facility.

Glenview’s Park District has already expanded the number of public, outdoor pickleball courts due to demand.

On Tuesday, village trustees gave first-round approval for a privately-run indoor facility. Glenview’s director of Community Development Jeff Brady shared the plans from Pickleball4All.

“As proposed, the indoor pickleball facility will operate on the weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.,” Brady said.

Before the unanimous vote, Trustee Tim Doron voiced his support for the industrial park location based, in part, on the fact that the club should be able to avoid the noise complaints that have plagued the sport’s rapid growth in residential areas.

“I think it’s an excellent use there,” said Doron. “Wonderful place for a pickleball facility because … it’s all contained.”

The only kitchens will be on the seven courts, as the owners have no plans to prepare food there.

According the owner, the facility will host pickleball lessons, tournaments and team building events that will be open to the public. Love it or hate it, the Professional Pickleball Association says it’s the fastest growing sport in this country with more than 36.5 million players.

The board is expected to give final approval later this month.
