(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 51-year-old Naperville woman fatally shot a man at a west suburban hotel after she got in an argument with the victim and followed him into an elevator, authorities in DuPage County said Monday.

Latrice Phillips was in a verbal altercation with Calvin Truitt and other people she knew Saturday night at the pool of the Hilton Suites in Oakbrook Terrace, officials said as they released more information about the shooting.

Phillips allegedly followed Truitt and others into an elevator and rode up to the seventh floor of the hotel, where a fight broke out. Phillips pulled out a gun and fired three times at Truitt, striking him, before going to her hotel room, prosecutors said.

Responding police took her into custody and recovered a handgun and holster, officials said. Truitt later died at the hospital.

A judge on Monday ordered Phillips held on a charge of first-degree murder, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said. She is next expected in court on Jan. 4.

“The allegations that Ms. Phillips followed Mr. Truitt and others into a hotel elevator as they walked away from a verbal altercation and then shot and killed Mr. Truitt as they exited the elevator in a crowded hotel during the busy holiday season are shocking and will be met with the full force of the law,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said.
