HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police officers in Hoffman Estates are now using body cameras to record interactions with the public.
In a post on the department's facebook page, Chief Kasia Cawley touted the benefits of the camera saying they would help with evidence collection, strengthen officers' performance and accountability and also increase the publics trust in officers while at the same time improving officer safety.
“Reviewing previously recorded incidents can provide opportunities to learn what strategies worked for one incident that could potentially work in a similar incident,” said Cawley.
The department said the implementation comes almost a year ahead of the state's mandated requirement date of January 1 of next year.
The body cameras, which record both audio and video, are currently being used by all sworn Police officers and community service officers.
