(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Attorneys representing former Northwestern University football Coach Pat Fitzgerald are pushing for a December trial date for his wrongful-termination suit, arguing that Fitzgerald’s future depends on it.

Fitzgerald and his attorney, Dan Webb, appeared before Judge Daniel Kubasiak on Zoom. Webb argued Fitzgerald, who was dismissed by Northwestern last year amid a hazing scandal, is already going to miss two seasons as the legal case proceeds.

If he misses a third season, Webb said, Fitzgerald may never coach again

The judge said a December trial date is “aggressive,” an opinion shared by Northwestern attorney Reid Schar. Schar said there are 700,000 documents, so far, and that the case would involve a pattern of hazing that occurred over several years, allegedly with Fitzgerald’s knowledge.

Fitzgerald has denied any knowledge of hazing in the football program.

A trial date was not set. Judge Kubasiak neither party may win if the case goes to trial.
