A Jewish student at Northwestern University is raising concerns of what the protest movement means for the safety of Jewish students.
Lily Cohen, a senior at Northwestern University and a leading member of the Jewish group Hillel, Cohen, says Jewish students have increasingly been criticized and targeted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators on campus.
"They specifically called out 'Hillel' and demonetized the institution on campus that supports Jewish students, which is incredibly troubling and disheartening," Cohen said. "And since then, we've seen an increase in tensions on campus and an escalation."
Cohen says she fully supports the rights of students opposed to the conflict in Gaza to protest on campus. She says a line is crossed when Jewish students are targeted verbally or physically.
Dozens of Northwestern students and activists continued to occupy Deering Meadow in Evanston Thursday night -- as part of a protest encampment.
It's modeled after occupations at other schools like Columbia University and University of Texas - Austin.
