(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — City officials and Amtrak are trying to find a good spot for Greyhound buses to drop off passengers now that the Greyhound Bus Terminal on West Harrison is expected to close this fall.
If you go to Union Station on the Jackson Boulevard side, you'll find a lot of congestion already with buses, cabs, cars, pedestrians, and construction. That's even before the nearby Greyhound bus terminal is set to close.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said right now the plan is to just drop off more bus passengers on Jackson Boulevard outside Union Station, an area that's already too congested.
“There's curb space and unused or vacant, commercial or retail space all over downtown. Not just here,” Magliari said.
He also mentioned other potential locations for the bus stop.
“We think there are other options. We think there are better options. We've provided a list of and some pictures of the other three all three train stations on this side of State street. If it has to be near a train station, there are better locations than this one.”
Amtrak sent a letter to city leaders, and, Amtrak said, the City has responded, and they expect to have a meeting sometime after the Democratic National Convention.
