CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Canned cocktails, a ready-to-drink pandemic innovation, is now the latest business opportunity for breweries big and small.
Carly Katz, owner of the liquor store Bottles and Cans in Chicago, told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that they appeal to people who don't want to go to a bar to have a bartender mix drinks for them.
"You can just crack open your little can and move on with your night," Katz said.
She said alcohol companies see growth in pre-mixed cocktails, now that it appears the hard seltzer business has leveled off.
"People said 'these are nice, but what about a cocktail?'" Katz said.
Katz said pre-mixed cocktails emerged from the opening stages of the pandemic.
“A lot of these guys were attempting to make their in-house cocktails to go, and everything just kind of snowballed from there,” Katz said.
Now, Katz said Bottles and Cans is ordering more of the pre-mixed concoctions.
“We call them ‘RTGs’ — ready to go — and we’ve probably expanded by, maybe, 50 SKUs,” Katz said.
