CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local volunteer organization focused on helping Chicago’s homeless population, has gotten a big gift heading into the long cold winter months.

This season of giving is just another day for Basheer Hassan, Vice-President of Chi-Care, who along with other volunteers over the past two years, has delivered thousands of meals to the city's homeless.

"We are doing kind of our normal which is making sure we distribute tents and any survival items that are on the streets," he said.

Chi-Care has also been stocking up on the safe to use Mr. Heater buddy series portable heaters even reaching out to Mr. Heater himself as sometimes the heaters are hard to come by.

Hassan told WBBM that with the delivery of Chi-Care's last order, Mr. Heater threw in over 10,000 XL bodywarmer heat packs.

"They were free. Every single one of them was free", said Hassan.

"Mr. Heater, they understand what we're doing and they appreciate it and they want to show their support and we had five pallets worth of these warmers delivered to us and it was just absolutely amazing."
