(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The mayor of Orland Park has decided to run for the Republican nomination for Congress in the newly redrawn 6th District.
Mayor Keith Pekau kicked off his run for Congress as a choice between someone who wants what he calls common sense solutions and those on the radical left.
“Politicians in Washington D.C. like Marie Newman, Sean Casten and Nancy Pelosi, have put special interests, party politics and extreme far left agendas ahead of doing what’s best for the people that they represent,” he said Monday.
If Pekau wins the GOP nomination, he’s likely to face either Congresswoman Marie Newman or Congressman Sean Casten who’ve been tossed into the same district.
Pekau has been noted, during the pandemic, for challenging orders from Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker. The mayor is endorsed by former state rep Jeannie Ives, who also criticizes Pritzker’s handling of the pandemic.
“From blanket lockdowns of small businesses, forced remote learning for young school children, to the shuttering of church services and mandated vaccinations, Democrat politicians have used their power to take away our choices and our freedom,” she said.
Cong. Newman said she has helped secure $17 billion for Illinois roads, bridges and green energy projects.
WBBM Newsradio had not received a response from Cong. Sean Casten’s campaign.
