(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A couple of central Illinois Republicans who were apparently not red enough to win their primaries June 28 shared their thoughts Monday about their futures.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Taylorville, who lost his primary to U.S. Rep. Mary Miller of Oakland, said, “I haven’t  shed a tear. I’m looking forward to what God’s plan is next through whatever that next door is.”

He also mused: “You win some, you lose some.”

State Rep. Avery Bourne of Morrisonville was a lieutenant governor candidate paired with Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, who was bested by state Sen. Darren Bailey of Xenia. Bailey, like Miller, had the the blessing of former President Donald Trump.

When asked about being practically left out of Irvin’s ubiquitous television commercials, Bourne said the place of the running mate is on the road, meeting people one-on-one. She likewise wasn’t sure what she’d be doing after office but said she was happy to be making an appearance on behalf of her constituents.

“I will do that for the next five months,” Bourne said.

Both Davis and Bourne were in Assumption, Illinois in Christian County for a traffic-related event.
