CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- About 125 teachers and support staff in the Kaneland school district called in sick after they received their second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
The district said there were not enough substitute teachers to fill all the absences, so it was forced to use an emergency day and cancel classes.
An email from Kaneland administrators to parents said the day will be made up at the end of the year.
"The last day of the 2020-2021 school year will be announced after spring break," the email concluded.
Some people who received the second dose of the Moderna vaccine report brief bouts of chills, headache, and fever.
WBBM reached out to the Kaneland school district on Friday about the status of instruction. Several schools in the district have resumed classes, although Kaneland High School is still keeping its students at home Friday.
