(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Hundreds turned out Thursday at the Palmer House Hilton’s Empire Room to remember Ken Price, the man who was director of the hotel’s public relations for 38 years.
“He was Mr. Chicago,” Lisa MacLean, Price’s niece, said during a memorial service.
“This was his family. I mean, yes, I’m family. But this place, this city, was his family.”
Charlotte Toney was one of Price’s many co-workers and former co-workers to celebrate the PR professional.
“I loved Ken so much because he was a true historian. Ken was the Palmer House. I loved everything about him. I brought my entire family down here so we could take the tour because Ken made it so wonderful.”
Leading his staff in paying tribute to Price was Dean Lane, area general manager.
“The Palmer House will never be the same without your large-than-life presence,” he said.
Ken Price died in March from cancer. He was 82.
