(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Palos Hills man will spend nearly four years in a federal prison for illegally shipping firearm parts to Israel.
Federal prosecutors say 37-year-old Amin Betuni shipped firearm parts to individuals in Israel on at least three occasions in 2022.
Betuni failed to obtain the required license or written approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce to ship firearm parts, which are subject to federal export regulations, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors say Betuni put false information on the shipping labels and concealed the parts in packages containing auto parts and George Foreman grills.
A raid on his home turned up numerous firearms and parts, including Glock Switches, which turn semi-automatic guns into machine guns.
Betuni pleaded guilty earlier this year. He was sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison.
