Pedestrian killed on Tri-State Tollway, ISP says

HINSDALE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating an early morning crash on the Tri-State Tollway that left one pedestrian dead.

The incident occurred at around 4:20 a.m., in a southbound lane of the I-294 Tri-State Tollway near the Hinsdale Oasis. Police said a person was standing outside a stalled vehicle in a lane of traffic when they and the vehicle were hit by a semi-tractor trailer truck.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

ISP created a partial closure at the scene of the accident. All lane reopened at around 10 a.m.

At it's worst, the investigation and cleanup resulted in more than 10 mile backup.
