(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lake County residents will be able to apply for a permanent vote by mail program.

The Lake County Clerk's Office mandated mailing will allow voters to complete a one-time application for enrollment in the permanent vote by mail program.

This week, voters will receive a notice for permanent vote by mail; those wanting to enroll can fill out the application and return it to the Clerk's Office.

Those who sign up will have a ballot automatically mailed to them at any address specified for future elections. This year, ballots will begin to be mailed Sept. 26.

This comes as a part of a 2021 law that requires eligible voters to be notified about the ability to enroll in permanent vote by mail.
