Person finds Bensenville woman's missing dog, but still has not returned it

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A west suburban pet owner is still searching for her dog, nearly two weeks after it was checked in to a west suburban animal hospital 20 miles away from home.

Yesenia Aguayo said her 11-year-old Shih-Tzu/Chihuahua mix, named Wendy, was carried away from her home in Bensenville on Oct. 3.

"We made the report of a missing dog with the Bensenville Police Department, and I called the Bensenville Animal Hospital and they said that no one had turned her in," she said.

But later that day, Aguayo told CBS 2 she got a call from an animal hospital in Downers Grove notifying her that Wendy's microchip had been scanned and that the person who found the dog would facilitate a reunion.

When Aguayo arranged a reunion at a gas station in Bensenville, the other person was a no show and Wendy is still missing.

Aguayo has a message for the person who has her dog.

"Please just drop her off at any police department, and my family and I would greatly appreciate it. She's been part of the family for quite some time," she said.

The animal hospital that scanned the dog's microchip said it is reviewing the situation to see what happened.
